What these numbers mean, and what they do not
A "treatment delivered" means one person's complete episode of care was paid for: consultation, tests and medication, settled at a partner facility against an itemised bill. It does not mean a person was handed cash, and it does not mean a contribution was made towards a larger programme.
Our donor and donation counts are deliberately unimpressive numbers to publish. We have 193 donors. We are not going to inflate that by counting everybody who has ever downloaded the app. The reason the treatment figure is so much larger than the donation figure is that a single treatment costs about three pounds, so a monthly donor funds a great many people over time.
Honesty about what is still small
We think a charity's website should say what it has not achieved as well as what it has.
- We operate in two countries. Half the world does not have free healthcare. We are a very small intervention against a very large problem.
- Our donor base is under two hundred people. Our biggest constraint is not our ability to deliver treatments, it is the number of people who know we exist.
- We do not cover major surgery or long-term specialist care, so there are people who come to a stand that we cannot fully help.
Cost per outcome
Because our unit of delivery is a single settled bill, our cost per outcome is unusually easy to state. In Nigeria the median treatment is £2.76, with the cheapest at £1.03 and the most expensive at £15.10. In Uganda a treatment typically costs £16.60. Full detail on what it costs.
How to check us
Our registration can be verified with the Charity Commission for England and Wales under number 1198719. Every donor receives an itemised breakdown of the bill their donation settled. If you want to ask us something specific about our figures, write to info@dogoapp.org and a person will answer you.
Give someone a treatment
Set up a £5 monthly donation and we will show you exactly who it treated. In Nigeria, £5 covers one person's entire treatment, usually with change.
